GALLATIN GATEWAY - Middle schoolers at Gallatin Gateway School got a visit from Montana's Republican senator Friday morning.
U.S. Senator Steve Daines stopped by and answered questions from sixth, seventh, and eighth graders as a part of their civics and U.S. history lessons. Daines gave students an inside look at what is like to serve as an elected official for Montana.
“For them to just get a sense of what goes on in the US government, that is what we study in civics in eighth grade, and for them, getting to see somebody who is involved in the action, is very important,” said Gallatin Gateway teacher Ashley Davis.
Students asked very engaging questions that ranged from health care reform to his responsibilities as a senator of Montana.
Eighth graders will take a trip to Washington DC to meet with both of Montana's senators, as well as tour the capital in May.
