Virginia “Jinnie” A. Milne, 78, passed away October 7, 2017, in Bozeman, MT.  She was born April 16, 1939 to Herbert G. and Emma Mary (Elliott) Starr in Portland, OR, where she grew up and went to school.  Jinnie married David Milne in 1966 and they had two sons.

She worked for a few years in the advertising department for Fred Myer as a proofreader before going back to school.  Jinnie received a degree in Elementary Education in 1964 from Portland State and taught First through Third Grades in Oregon as well as substitute teaching later for several years.  She received a second degree from North Dakota State University in Journalism and Graphic Design in 1994.  Since then she used these skills to produce, edit and prepare newsletters, brochures, and displays for various professional and civic organizations.

Jinnie’s true and heartfelt passion for the last twenty-plus years was writing poetry, photography and producing shows and coffee table books that included her poetry and photographs from travels around North America and Europe.

She lived in Grand Forks, ND, for twenty years where she was active in many civic organizations including American Association of University Women (AAUW), where she served as State president for over two years.  After moving to Bozeman in 1999, Jinnie was active in the local Audubon Chapter and the Methodist Church as well as being a Child Advancement Project (CAP) volunteer.

Jinnie is survived by her husband of more than 51 years, Dave Milne; and sons, Alex Milne of Grand Forks and Eric Milne of Bozeman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jinnie’s name to Family Promise, 429 E. Story St., Bozeman, MT 59715.

A celebration of Jinnie’s life to be announced.
