BOZEMAN - The American Museum of Fly Fishing (AMFF) presented the 2017 Izaak Walton award on Friday to Bozeman resident and founder of Yellow Dog Flyfishing, Jim Klug.

The award honors Klug’s passion for the sport of fly fishing and involvement in their angling community.

“You know it was a surprise. It’s definitely an honor. The AMFF is a great institution and to be their recipient of this award, it was a surprise.  It’s humbling. I couldn’t be more honored and I’m very, very appreciative,” Klug said.

Many of Jim’s friends and his business partner are extremely proud of him.

“We are a big part of the Bozeman community and we have an enormous pride in that. The fact that Jim is being honored tonight is a big deal for everybody at Yellow Dog,” said Ian Davis, co-owner of Yellow Dog Flyfishing.

“We are extremely proud of Jim and all the work that he has done and we are here tonight to support Jim and the American Fly Fishing Museum,” he said.

“Jim is well known across the country and across the world as being an advocate for this sport and the conservation of fly fishing and fisheries across the country.  Doesn’t matter where you are across this globe, if you mention Jim Klug’s name, someone’s going to know him,” said Ben Bulis, president of the American Fly Fishing Trade Association.

The AMFF presented the Izaak Walton award to Klug at Riverside Country Club in Bozeman.

“You know, it’s neat to be able to do this in our hometown of Bozeman, Montana,” Klug said.

“The museum is based in Manchester, Vermont. And that’s where the home of the museum, but Bozeman is the home of fly fishing. I mean this is the epicenter of the fly fishing universe. So for the museum to come here to our hometown to do this event here in Bozeman is fantastic.  It’s a great honor and what better place to do it,” he said.
