First annual Recovery Walk honors National Recovery Month in Great Falls

Posted: Updated:

As September is National Recovery Month, the Rocky Mountain Treatment Center and Turning Leaf Recovery Network hosted the first annual Recovery Walk in Great Falls on Saturday at the Montana ExpoPark.

The walk included events such as an equine therapy exhibit, a series of games, free food and Pepsi beverages, and music.

The day was meant to bring people together and remind attendees of what life can be like without drugs or alcohol.

Event organizers said recovery is an individual journey for every person and the Rocky Mountain Treatment Center offers individualized treatment so people can return to a better and healthier life.

According to Jeff Quackenbush, a Rocky Mountain Treatment Center administrator, the walk is meant to celebrate recovery.

"Celebrate the progress that you've made and looking forward to working together because as we know, isolation is the enemy of recovery," Quackenbush said. "Getting together and supporting each other is how humanity was built to be so that's why we're here together today."

Organizers said around 200 people attended and the majority of visitors had gone through addiction recovery.

The Rocky Mountain Treatment Center is an in-patient recovery program where people's basic needs such as food and bills are covered so they can focus solely on treating their addiction.

The Turning Leaf Recovery Network works with individuals and families struggling with addiction by reaching out, connecting, and promoting options for recovery.
