GLASGOW -

A Glasgow man who was out on bond for a July assault is accused of assaulting the Valley County officer with a metal pipe, Valley County Sheriff Vernon Buerkle said Tuesday.

Tanner Cook, 20, was charged Monday in Valley County Justice Court with attempted deliberate homicide, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, assault on a peace officer, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

According to Buerkle, deputies were called to a domestic disturbance at a trailer park just outside of Glasgow around noon Friday.

Neighbors had reported that Cook and his girlfriend were fighting.

When the first deputy arrived, Cook allegedly came out of the trailer armed with a metal pipe and began hitting the patrol car.

The officer responded for back up and Cook allegedly assaulted him with the pipe.

The undersheriff suffered blows to the head, according to Buerkle. He did not release the undersheriff's name.

The two law enforcement officers were able to subdue Cook with a taser.

The undersheriff was transported to the emergency room where he was treated for a head injury and later released.

According to Buerkle, the undersheriff is not yet able to return to duty because of his injuries.

Cook is being held at the Valley County Detention Facility on a $500,000 bond.

Buerkle said this wasn’t law enforcement’s first encounter with Cook, who was out on bond for a prior offense at the time of this incident.

Cook was arrested in July for a domestic disturbance and later charged with assault.

The Valley County Sheriff’s Office and Glasgow Police Department are investigating.

Just last month, a pair of inmates at the jail in Glasgow was charged with assaulting a female detention officer in an attempt to escape.

Buerkle said on Tuesday that the guard has since recovered.
