BOZEMAN -

A Bozeman man was charged with assault with a weapon after reportedly pointing a handgun at his roommate.

William M. Mellott, 30, faces a $50,000 bond, after being seen in Gallatin County Justice Court Monday morning.

According to charging documents, Bozeman Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance on Fallon St. in Bozeman on Friday, Sept. 8, after a man called 911, reporting that his roommate had pointed a handgun at him.

When law enforcement arrived, Mellott was on an upstairs balcony yelling profanities at his roommate, while his girlfriend tried to calm him down.

When questioned by officers, Mellott said he had relapsed and was intoxicated.

Mellott also admitted retrieving his 1911 style .45 caliber handgun as well as a Glock-style handgun that he had pointed at himself earlier in the evening.

Mellott’s roommate took the weapon, unloaded and hid it in his room. Mellott’s girlfriend also reportedly told officials that she witnessed Mellott with a handgun that he was pointing at everyone as well as himself, and made threats to kill everyone as well as himself.

Mellott’s next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 6, 2017.
