UPDATE: 9/11/17 - 11 A.M. -

KALISPELL - The Montana Highway Patrol reports drugs are suspected to be a factor in the deaths of two women who died in a head-on crash in Kalispell near Glacier Park International Airport over the weekend.

The accident happened just before noon Sunday near mile marker 131 on U.S. Highway 2.

Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says Holly Richards, 32, of Bozeman was driving northbound and Linda Contreras, 40, of Riverside California was driving southbound when for unknown reasons Richards crossed over the continuous left turn lane and continued into the right southbound lane of traffic in front of Contreras.

The vehicles collided head-on and both women were pronounced dead at the scene. The Montana Highway Patrol says alcohol and speed are not suspected to be factors in the crash but drugs are. Both of the victims were wearing seat belts.

MHP reports an investigation shows that braking was not present from either vehicle and that road conditions were listed as bare and dry at the time of the crash.

The accident brings the number of people killed on Montana's roads this year to 133.

(Correction: Original information provided by law enforcement stated the Richards was 40 years old. MHP reports she was 32.)
