Moderate and Severe Drought Grows Across Montana This Week

Posted: Updated:

No significant moisture over Montana this past week so no improvement on the drought monitor. Because of the warm and dry weather over the state drought conditions continue to worsen especially over NW Montana.

There is no change in the exceptional status for NE Montana from last week it continues to hold at 12% and the same those areas experiencing extreme drought holding steady at 25%.

The growth in drought conditions comes in the Severe and Moderate status. Huge growth from last week to this week with 44% of Montana now under severe drought status and a big increase in the moderate range with 61%.

Most of SW Montana is drought free, however, most areas North of I-90 is in the abnormally dry status meaning drought conditions are beginning to develop.

As long as the weather pattern remains dry there is no relief in sight.

There could be some minor changes to the overall weather pattern arriving late weekend into early next week as a pacific storm rolls over Montana. Look for more information on this tonight at 5:30 pm and 10 pm on KBZK and KXLF and STORMTracker Weather with Chief Meteorologist Mike Heard.
