A procession for Vista Grande Hotshot Brent Witham was held on Monday at 9 a.m. in Missoula.

The procession route began at the Garden City Funeral Home on West Broadway and proceeded to the Aerial Fire Depot at the Missoula International Airport.

The public was invited to line Broadway between Garden City Funeral Home and the Reserve Street overpass by 8:30 a.m.

Witham died on Aug. 2 while fighting the Lolo Peak Fire. The procession was streamed on the Lolo National Forest Facebook page.

Witham was then taken home from Montana to his family with the arrival set for the San Bernardino air tanker base. His body was escorted the entire way home by U.S. Forest Service law enforcement and an Honor Guard.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10 at the National Orange Show, Orange Pavilion, Arrowhead entrance in San Bernardino. Anyone who would like to attend is welcome.  The memorial will begin about 10 a.m., with the doors opening an hour earlier.

A website blog has been established to help the public, media and agency personnel find detailed information about the August 10th memorial and will be updated as new information becomes available.

Condolences for the family can be mailed to the San Bernardino National Forest Supervisor’s Office, 602 South Tippecanoe, San Bernardino, CA 92408.

Emails can be sent to withammemorialinfo@gmail.com. All correspondence will be given to Brent’s family.

For those who would like to remember Brent with a donation, a Memorial Fund is being set up. We will have more information as it becomes available.
