Obituary: Therese "Tesie" Pew

Therese “Tesie” Pew, 79, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017, in Bozeman.  She was born on October 22, 1937, in Bryn Mawr, PA to Edward and May (Groves) Rakestraw.

Tesie grew up in Philadelphia, PA where she attended school through the eighth grade.  She graduated from Westover School in Connecticut and then went on to earn an Associates in Arts Degree from Briarcliff College in New York.

Early in her career Tesie worked as a teacher and Fashion Consultant.  She married Sandy Pew and became a stay home Mom.  In addition to raising her three children, she helped operate the North Ridge Ranch in Bozeman, Maudlow, and Wilsall with Sandy.  She was an accomplished horsewoman, ranch partner, and mother.

Tesie served as a board member of the Glacier National Park Fund Board for nine years and was involved in the Gallatin County Cattlewomen.  Tesie was a very active woman, she enjoyed playing tennis, hiking, sailing, traveling, horse packing and riding. 

She is survived by her husband, Sandy; sons, Brad Jepson, M.D. and Weston (Marela) Pew; daughter, Ashley (Todd) Whipple; mother, Sue Rakestraw; sister, Trudy Munsick; brothers, Peter Rakestraw D.V.M. and Rick Rakestraw; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Sandra Gould and brother, Edward Rakestraw.

A celebration of Tesie’s life will be held later this summer on the ranch.  Should friends desire, memorials in her name may be made to the Pass Creek Community Center.
