Obituary: Mabel Josephine (Moore) Francis

Mabel Josephine (Moore) Francis passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Billings, MT.

She was born on November 14, 1921, at Las Animas, Bent County, CO to John D. and Mary Bertha (Hambleton) Moore.

Mabel graduated from Bent County High School in Las Animas in 1939. She was employed by the U.S.D.A. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and later transferred to the Soil Conservation Service at Las Animas and Lamar, CO.

Mabel moved to Bozeman, MT in 1946. She and Edwin L. Francis were married on January 11, 1946, in Livingston, MT. They were the parents of two daughters, Carol Ann and Doris Jean.

After her daughters were older, Mabel was employed as a bookkeeper for 10 years at Hines Motor Supply in Bozeman and as a deputy Gallatin County Treasurer for almost 16 years. She retired on December 31, 1983.

Mabel was a member of and active in the Bozeman United Methodist Church for over 50 years and enjoyed attending activities at the Bozeman Senior Center. She enjoyed sewing and needle crafts.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol (David) Williford of Colorado Springs, CO and Doris (Ross) McCulloch of Billings; three grandchildren, Lyle (Edythe) McCulloch of San Jose, CA, Wendy (Beau) Thompson of Billings, and Scott (Michelle) McCulloch of Aurora, CO; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Edwin; and sister, Maxine Rivard of Grants Pass, OR.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  A Graveside Service will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 28, at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
