Cascade County Sheriff charged with misdemeanor assault in Helena

Edwards is accused of pushing his intimate partner into a T.V. stand causing injury.
Helena City Attorney Thomas Jodoin tells MTN News that Edwards pleaded not guilty before Judge Wood on Thursday evening.
An omnibus hearing has been set for July 19th at 1:00 p.m.
(UPDATE, 12:34 p.m.) During a brief press conference late Friday morning, Undersheriff John Stevens said that law enforcement operations will continue as normal.
Stevens said that Edwards has returned to Great Falls and has retained an attorney.
Cascade County Commissioner Joe Briggs told KRTV that Edwards can not be placed on administrative leave - as is often the case with law enforcement officers who are accused of crimes - because he is an elected official.

(1st Report, 9:38 a.m.)Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards has been cited for misdemeanor partner-family member assault in Helena.
It happened on Thursday evening at the Radisson Colonial Hotel just before 5:30 p.m.
According to the citation, Edwards is accused of pushing his intimate partner into a T.V. stand causing injury.
Helena City Police responded to the call.
The city's daily Calls for Service says six officers responded.
MTN has confirmed that Edwards went before Judge Robert Wood Thursday night.
