Montana unemployment rate ticks up

State officials report that Montana’s unemployment rate nudged up by 0.1 percentage points in May to 3.9%.

Payroll employment estimates and the total employment estimates fell by 600 jobs and 670 jobs respectively from April to May.

However, the Montana Department of Labor and Industry reports that the state added 7,400 more jobs than in May 2016.

The lowest unemployment in the Treasure State was 1.8% in Daniels, McCone and Powder counties while Big Horn County had the highest jobless rate at 12.4%.

Missoula County's jobless rate stood at 3.1% in May, Lake County was at 3.6% while Ravalli County saw a 4.1% unemployment rate in May.

The jobless rate in Flathead County was 4.8% and was followed by Granite County at 5.5%, with both Mineral and Sanders counties having a 6.2% unemployment rate.

Lincoln County had the second highest jobless rate for May in Montana at 8.0%

The U.S. unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 4.3%
