Obituary: Flossie L. Postema

Posted: Updated:

Flossie L. Postema, 94, passed away quietly on Saturday, June 10, 2017. She was born on April 2, 1923, on a ranch south of Reedpoint, Montana, to Staten and Dorothy (Martin) Thelander. She attended Kent Lake and Stockade rural schools prior to the family moving to Bozeman, Montana. Flossie attended Gallatin County High School (Bozeman) and graduated in 1941. Following graduation, she worked at the BettyAnn Bakery until she went to work for Mountain Bell. She retired in 1982.

Flossie married Bud Postema on April 21, 1945. They lived for a short time in Billings and then returned to Bozeman. The couple had four children – sons, Gary and Gerald, who died in infancy, and daughters, Karen and Donna. Bud passed away in January 1998. Subsequently, Flossie moved to Laurel where she lived until her death.

Flossie was a life member of the Grand Avenue Christian Church and Telephone Pioneers. She had also been a member of the Garden Club and Rebekah Lodge as well as volunteering in the school reading program. Throughout her life, Flossie enjoyed reading. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Flossie is survived by her daughters, Karen Postema of Laurel, Montana, and Donna (Murray) Anderson of Lynwood, Washington; grandchildren, Kamala Postema and Mary Postema (Robert) Pruett, Paul Ryan (Tiffany) Hanson; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Rebecca, Robert and Elisha Pruett; niece, Sharon Thelander Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Staten and Dorothy Thelander; husband, Bud Postema; infant sons, Gary and Gerald; brother, Kenneth Thelander; granddaughter, Dianna Hanson; and cousin, Jane Stevens.

Our thanks go to Flossie’s caregiver, Ella Edlund, for five years of faithful care.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 14th at 1 p.m. at Sunset Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Grand Avenue Christian Church, 110 S. Grand Ave., Bozeman, MT 59715; Project Survival’s Cat Haven, 38257 E. Kings Canyon Rd., Dunlap, CA 93621; or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com
