Obituary: Shirley Arline Johnson

Posted: Updated:

Shirley Arline Johnson went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 7, 2017. Shirley was born on April 6, 1928, in Glendive, MT, the daughter of Olof and Syble Anderson.

Shirley's childhood was full of adventure living on a farm, along with 12 siblings at Lindsay, MT.  She attended Clear Creek Country School, for her elementary years and then graduated from Dawson County High School in Glendive, MT. She received her Associate Degree in Education, from Eastern MT College in Billings. It was there Shirley met Mac Johnson. He was always asking for a few pennies so that he could take her for coffee. Soon after she quickly realized Mac was the "Love of Her Life"! They were married in Glendive, MT, on August 18, 1951.

Life for Shirley was very full with a home immersed in love for Mac and her four children. She was an avid baker, gardener/food preserver, seamstress and wonderful friend to all. Along Mac's side, whether home, work, or ministry, they made a wonderful team. For years, Shirley also was a steady substitute teacher at Willson Middle School and Sunday school teacher in Bozeman.

Their lives made a big turn for ministry for the Lord with the children raised. A faithful partner for life, she joined Mac in ministry as a pastor's wife for many years. Serving  and ministering to many, she was a true example of a Proverbs: 31 woman!

Shirley is survived by her beloved family, Andrea (Mark) King of Three Forks, Mark ( Kay) Johnson of Bozeman, Sybil (Clint) Steadman of Bozeman and Kathryn (Steve) Ovenell of Cashmere, WA; grandchildren, Justin (Lisa) King of Bozeman, Seth King, Joel (Malin) King, Cec (Jennie) Johnson, Tori (Kyle) Detrick, Kaila (Jacob) Passey, Brandon (Kristen) Steadman, Anna (Mike) Pohlman, Mac (Mikaela) Ovenell, Stan (Kayla) Ovenell and Nick Ovenell; sister, Ardis Collins of Loveland, CO; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins!

Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, (father and grandfather), Mac J.
Johnson!

A wonderful Saint in the Lord, Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and friends! For Shirley, "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" and "It is well with my soul".

Donations may be made in Shirley’s name to a mission or missionary of your choice.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 9 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson.  Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 10 at 9 a.m. at Meadow View Cemetery with a reception to follow at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Bible Church.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com

This year's U.S. Capitol Christmas tree was grown right here in Montana. It only makes sense that the tree's topper was made in its home state as well.
