Obituary: Alice Anna Mason Adsem

Alice Anna Mason Adsem (1923-2017) was born to Rudolph and Semele (Mathew) Dwight in a log cabin in the mountains west of Augusta, MT.  Alice went to grade school in Augusta, Josephine and Fairfield, MT.  She graduated from Belgrade High School in 1941.  She took a one-year course in accounting at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT.

Alice married Howard Mason in Reno, NV.  They lived in Spokane and Seattle, WA, and Boise, ID. Howard was in the insurance business.  Alice worked as a secretary and accountant. They had many happy years together. Howard died in 1977.

Alice moved back to Montana and built a house on Lower Rainbow Road in Four Corners. She lived there alone for eighteen years.

Alice and Duane Adsem were married in Hawaii in 1995.  They both enjoyed traveling and dancing.  They went on several tours with the Senior Citizens Group; the most memorable to China and Australia.  They also went on river and ocean cruises.

Alice is survived by her husband, Duane; step-son, Stan Adsem of Las Vegas, NV; step-daughter, Diane Titus of Boulder City, NV; sister-in-law, Pauline Mason; and a special niece, Dianne Koltz of Seattle, WA; as well numerous nieces and nephews in the Seattle area.  Also surviving are cousins, Ninee Freeman and Nila Shenk of Fairfield, MT, as well as numerous other cousins; and very close friends, Howard and Ruth Spegman of Black River Falls, WI.  Alice loved Ruth very much and thought of her as the daughter she never had.  Alice was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Frank “Bud” Dwight.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
