Obituary: Merwyn R. Megee

Posted: Updated:

Merwyn R. Megee peacefully passed away in his home on April 19, 2017.

On May 5, 1932, Merwyn Ralph Megee was born at 4:26 a.m. at the old hospital in Bozeman, MT to Ellison and Amelia Sievert Megee. After that, he didn’t remember too much until sometime later, except in June of 1943, when he heard the voice of the Lord say that He would never leave him nor forsake him; he never forgot. Merwyn loved to tell his stories and to tell others of Jesus.

Merwyn resided in Bozeman until 1946, when circumstances brought him to the care of his Uncle Ora and Aunt Rose Megee of the Maple Grove Ranch in McAllister, MT. Merwyn lived and worked on the ranch until 1958.

Merwyn married Joann Cox on October 28, 1956. That marriage produced two children, Merwyn Jr. and Amelia Lucille, both wonderful kids. The Megees lived in Wyoming where Merwyn worked as a camp roustabout in the oilfield until 1962. The Megees then moved to Meeker, CO where Merwyn resumed ranch work until 1965. They moved on to Kansas City, KS, and Merwyn worked for a veterinary pharmaceutical company for several years. This marriage dissolved in 1973.

In 1975, Merwyn met his wife of 41 years, Adrienne Holmes Larson. They married on February 14, 1976. Merwyn worked various jobs, finally settling in with his step-son-in-law, and friend, in the insulation business for 18 years.  He retired in 1996. Merwyn and Adrienne frequently traveled to the ranch in McAllister for vacations and visits. Merwyn returned to Montana in 1998 with his lovely wife to live in Ennis, MT.

As folks do, Merwyn found a hobby to keep him busy. He made soy candles and sold them at the various farmers markets, bazaars, and other such events in Southwestern Montana. Ennis is where he remained for the rest of his days.

Merwyn leaves behind his wife, Adrienne; son, J.R. Megee; daughter, Amy Schooner; step-daughters and their husbands, Christine and Jim Conard, Beth and Clifton Shaw, and Julie and Dave O’Brien; step-son-in-law, Tom Hayes; and 27 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind four brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Howard, Phyllis Thomason, Ellison and wife Jackie, Bethel and husband Jerry Watilo, Tom and wife Lorene, Loren and wife Nida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merwyn was preceded in death by his parents; his uncle and aunt; one infant brother; one sister, Miriam Richesin; one step-daughter, Karen Hayes; and one sister-in-law, Cleda Megee.

Merwyn will be missed by his large family and his many, many friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 24, at Assembly of God Church in Ennis, followed by interment at McAllister Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.
