Fatal crash shuts down Highway 212 near Lame Deer

LAME DEER -

A crash involving a pickup truck and a semi truck in Rosebud County early Thursday morning left one person dead.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 12 west of Lame Deer around 4:30 a.m., according to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Richard Drake.

The section of road where the crash occurred has been closed all morning and Drake said traffic would likely be rerouted through 3 p.m. on Thursday.

A pickup truck and a semi truck collided head-on.

The driver of the pickup and the only occupant was killed.

The driver and a passenger in the semi truck suffered minor injuries, according to the trooper.

Drake said the events leading up to the crash are still unclear.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is the lead investigator because the crash happened on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation.

Drake did not yet know whether speed, drugs or alcohol were involved.

The name of the victim was not released.
