Obituary: Cyril C. Firth

Posted: Updated:

Cyril C. Firth was born in Castleford, England, in the Spring of 1919, and passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the age of 97. “Cy” as known by his friends and family is survived by wife of 74 years, Dorothy A. (Mengel) Firth; son, David C. Firth (wife Patti); son-in-law, Kenneth Olson; sister, Corrine Fohrer; sister-in-law, Joan Crane; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Cy was preceded in death by daughters, Kerry Lee (Firth) Olson and Kristine Ann (Firth) Schueler.

After being raised and schooled in Flint, Michigan, he started his working life in manufacturing during the war effort, then worked in the auto industry becoming Chrysler Corporation’s first General Plants Manager in charge of Dodge and Plymouth manufacturing operations. He later had responsibilities at different times for all Chrysler assembly plants including Dodge truck manufacturing operations. He was involved in many truck innovations such as the first club cab and the first mini vans.

Cy retired from Chrysler in 1979 and moved from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, to Hobe Sound, Florida, and spent his last years in Bozeman, MT. Cy loved the game of golf and played it well from his college days to retirement, always maintaining that pure swing (a thing of beauty) for all those years. His other passions included fishing, bird hunting, and classic sports cars, leaving those that knew and loved him many pleasant memories. He will be missed by many.

In lieu of flowers or cards, please donate in his name to your favorite charity.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com
