Obituary: Albert M. Douglas

Posted: Updated:

Albert M Douglas, age 87, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2017. He was born in a log cabin along side Box Elder Creek near Ekalaka, Montana, to Norman and Florence Douglas. A genuine Montana cowboy, Albert worked on ranches in Ridgeway, Terry, Simms, Deer Lodge, the La Grande, Oregon area, and Stevensville, Montana, where for twenty years he was caretaker of Huey Lewis’ Valley Springs Ranch, retiring in 2013.

He met his beautiful bride, Lila Finch, at Custer County High School in Miles City; they were married on May 24, 1948, and were blessed with five children, Larry, David, Reimer, Robert, and Beverly, and a beautiful and loving marriage of almost sixty-nine years.

Albert was a faithful Christian with a heart for service and evangelism. Always eager to share the gospel, he gave out tracts and New Testaments with joy.  He served in many churches as a board member, Sunday school superintendent, greeter, and he and Lila were active with Gideon’s International for many years.  He was also a Red Cross Volunteer in La Grande, Oregon.

Albert is survived by his loving wife, Lila Claire Finch Douglas, of Churchill; five children, Larry (Sharon) Douglas of Custer, WA, David (Judy) Douglas of Churchill, MT, Reimer (Kathleen) Douglas of Seattle, WA, Robert (Karen) Douglas of Ontario, OR, and Beverly (Bruce) Donnell of Nampa, ID; and sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Florence Douglas; brother, Marvin Douglas; sisters, Doris Strand and Phyllis Haynes; and great grandson, Caleb Cabrera.

Albert Douglas was a faithful attender of Manhattan Christian Reformed Church. Memorials may be made to the Gideon’s International.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 1, at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  Graveside services will be at 9:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 2 at Meadowview Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:30 A.M. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  www.dokkennelson.com
