Obituary: Ellen Alberda

Posted: Updated:

Ellen Alberda went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

Ellen was born on June 26, 1921, to Saco and Carrie Ypma at a farm near Amsterdam, MT. She spent all of her 95 years of life within 10 miles of this farm. She attended elementary school at a number of one-room schoolhouses in Camp Creek and Anceney areas. She attended Manhattan Public High School and on October 3, 1940, she married Henry Alberda in Manhattan Christian Reformed Church in Churchill, MT. This marriage would last 66 years, ending in Henry’s death in 2006.

Together they raised nine children. Ellen was very involved in many activities at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church. In addition to her children, she raised and loved animals of all kinds. Ellen was an excellent cook and her kitchen table was open to all. It was never known who or how many people would stop by for coffee at 10:00 am and 3:00 pm on any given day. There were always fresh baked items served and the coffee pot never ran dry. Her flowers inside and outside her house were the envy of many.

Ellen is survived by nine children; Richard (Carol) Alberda of Tucson, AZ, Connie (Eldon) Dyk of Denver, CO, Henry (Julie) Alberda of Ft. Worth, TX, Pete (Barbara) Alberda of Lewiston, ME, Mark Alberda of Phoenix, AZ, Laurel (Kevin) Grosskopf of Manhattan, MT, Debora (Jim) Summers of Scottsdale, AZ, Daniel Alberda of Bozeman, MT, and Sheila (Daryl) Feenstra of Bozeman, MT.

Also surviving are ten grandchildren; Michael Alberda of Corpus Christie, TX, Kevin and Brian Dyk and Joy Silva of Denver, CO, Charlotte Alberda of Bozeman, MT, Amanda Alberda of Lewiston, MT, Jeffrey Feenstra of Bozeman, MT, Carrie Kinna of Billings, MT, Ross Feenstra of Gallatin Gateway, MT, and Allison Bachman of Bozeman, MT.

She is also survived by great-grandchildren; Riley, Elliott, Emmerson, Russell and Christopher Dyk, and Aidan, Noah, Quinn and Kate Feenstra, and Paisley Kinna and Raelynn Bachman.

Donations may be made in Ellen’s name to Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, 1549 E. Cameron Bridge Rd., Bozeman, MT 59718.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  Graveside services will be held Friday, February 3rd at 10 a.m. at Hills Cemetery followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.

Arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. www.dokkennelson.com
