BOZEMAN -

Several local companies have been singled out as "companies to watch" in 2017.

The Montana High Tech Business Alliance lists 15 such companies and 4 are located in the Bozeman area.

One of those companies if Ascent Vision in Belgrade.  It was started in 2014 by former Navy Seal Tim Sheehy.  The company specializes in real-time aerial video. In the past year and a half, they have hired about 50 people. “Most of the engineering staff are all MSU grads - electrical, mechanical software, and most of the operations sales staff are former military comrades of mine," said Sheehy.

These are just some of the reasons Ascent Vision was chosen as a 2017 Montana Company to Watch, a designation Bozeman's economic development director did not find surprising. “We work very closely with many of these up and coming companies, some on the list and some not, to try to help them advance their efforts, their entrepreneurial efforts," said Bozeman Economic Director Brit Fontenot.

Companies like Ascent Vision fit the city's vision for the future. “The tech industry, the knowledge economy is a really important way to offset some of the losses that we're experiencing in the agricultural field and the natural resources field,” explained Fontenot.

If Ascent Vision stays on track they stand to make $20-30 million this year and will be moving into a new, larger space at the airport this summer
