Obituary: Edwin Molt Wismeyer

Edwin Molt Wismeyer passed away peacefully on November 28, 2016, in Bozeman, Montana, at the age of 94.

He was born October 1, 1922, in Billings, Montana, to J Arthur and Emma Wismeyer. Ed’s grandparents, Rudolph and Alvina Molt, were prominent figures in Billings founding the Lazy KT ranch in Molt, Montana.

Ed graduated from Billings Senior High in 1940 and proceeded in 1941 to Montana State University in Bozeman graduating in 1948 where he was a member of Sigma Chi.  His studies were interrupted in 1942 while he served in the United States Army 264th Infantry, 66th Division, stationed outside Salzburg, Austria.  His commission as Captain ended with an Honorable Discharge in 1944.  Returning to Montana State University, Ed earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secretarial Studies.  Later he became a CPA having his own practice in Billings for 50-plus years. Ed participated for many years as a Master member of the Masons and a Shriner of the Scottish Rite in Billings. In retirement, Ed loved to travel, play golf, and attend family gatherings.

In 1947, Ed married Josephine K. Thompson, mother of their four children. A second marriage to Betty Hanson Edwards in 1965 blended two families and seven children. Ed and Betty eventually built a house in Green Valley, Arizona, and spent their time between Billings and Arizona moving to Arizona permanently in 2014.  Both were active in their communities and church.

He is survived by his sister, June Lundquist Pierce; children, James Wismeyer, Jack Wismeyer, Jan Miles, Julie Panonne, Mary Ford, Betsey Garrett, Martin Edward; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and grandson, Oscar Miles.

Ed was a very kind, thoughtful, generous, gentleman, who had many friends old and young that loved, enjoyed, and respected him. He had a gift for making friends and will be missed greatly by all.

A celebration of life will be held January 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Desert Hills Lutheran Church, 2150 S. Camino Del Sol, Green Valley, AZ 85622.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 911 W. 5th Ave., Spokane, WA 99204, your local VA or a charity of your choice.
