BOZEMAN -

Over 200 junior high girls were able to participate in hands on science activities at Montana State University today. MTN's Morgan McKay explains what ways this conference helps encourage an interest in science particularly to women.

The Expanding your Horizons conference helps introduce junior high girls to the world of science, math, engineering and technology. For one activity, students were taught how to create their own spinning electric motor.

"I didn't have anyone who really talked to me about this stuff until I came to college I didn't even know I was super interested in it. So I think it's a really cool opportunity to get people, young girls, exposure to it and see what they like and what they don't," said student Caitlin Olson.

Students were taught the science of how the motor was put together and then how they can be applied practically.
