SHERIDAN, Wyo. -

A motorcyclist with a passenger reached speeds of 150 mph  while trying to elude the Wyoming Highway Patrol near Buffalo.

According to a patrol press release, the incident happened at about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday south of Buffalo on Interstate 25.

Joseph T. DeVries, 33 of Sheridan, was eventually arrested.

The chase began when a trooper spotted a black 2006 Honda motorcycle speeding 110 mph in an 80 mph zone at mile post 255 on Interstate 25 northbound.

As the trooper began to catch up to the motorcycle, the motorcycle began to accelerate. The trooper caught up to the motorcycle at mile post 271 but the Honda still failed to stop.

A pursuit ensued northbound on I-25 with speeds reaching 150 mph. Dispatchers sent additional law enforcement towards the pursuit.

At mile post 288, the motorcycle turned around in the median and proceeded south on I-25. At mile post 285 southbound, the motorcycle went into the west ditch where DeVries lost control and laid the bike down at a slow speed.

DeVries took off on foot. As he ran, troopers observed him drop a pistol from his waistband while running. Troopers were able to catch up to DeVries and take him into custody at gunpoint.

After DeVries’ arrest, troopers discovered the pistol he had dropped was stolen.

DeVries was evaluated at the Johnson County Health Center in Buffalo for any possible injuries from laying the motorcycle down. He was then taken to the Johnson County Detention Center in Buffalo.

DeVries has been charged with eluding, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, possession of stolen property and was being held on a felony warrant out of Campbell County, Wyoming for parole violation. Other charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The passenger on the motorcycle, 24-year old Kimberly Schempp, also from Sheridan, was taken to the Johnson County Health Center in Buffalo for treatment and is not facing any charges.
