Sustained winds for more than 24 hours in the Gallatin Valley are knocking down trees and causing power outages between Bozeman and Belgrade this evening.
According to Central Valley Fire officials, reports of downed trees and power lines started coming in to 911 at about 6 tonight.
So far we have reports of power-lines taken down by trees at Monforton School Road and Baxter, Thorpe and Frank Roads, Bostwick Canyon, as well as a transformer failure at Gallatin Gateway.
Central Valley Fire, the Gallatin County Road Department, the Sheriff's Department, and Northwestern Energy Crews are working to clean up the mess.
According to Northwestern Energy's Claudia Rapkoch spotty power outages between Bozeman and Belgrade have left about 1,000 people in the dark this evening. She says crews will work through the night to restore power.
Rapkoch says people who see downed power-lines or power poles should not approach them but should report them immediately by calling 911 or 1-888-467-2669.
