The estimated acreage of a fire northwest of Winifred has dropped dramatically.

The PN fire, believed to have been sparked by lightning on Tuesday night, has burned about 900 acres; that's down from earlier estimates of 1,700 acres.

The fire is not believed to have affected any homes or structures.

Crews from BLM, the MT DNRC, New Mexico, and other agencies had been assisting in fighting the fire, but a number of those trucks are now on their way to Hill County, where another lightning-caused fire south of Havre has scorched about 15 acres.
We're told the fire is burning mostly grass and patchy timber and that no structures are threatened.
