Wildfire breaks out in Jefferson County, bordering Butte-Silverbow County line

UPDATE: 7:15 p.m. From Jefferson County Sheriff's Office: 300 Homes threatened, mandatory evacuations in Rader Creek area southwest of Whitehall. As of 6:50 pm, no shelters set up that they know of. Sheriff's office handling the evacuations of the homes. No homes in Whitehall evacuated at this time.

UPDATE: 6:45 p.m. A 200 -plus acres fire is spreading in Jefferson County just near the Butte-Silver Bow County border.

Structures in the area are threatened and evacuations are currently taking place, according to Leona Roderick, public information officer for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Service. A type two incident team has been called in. Air retardant helicopters, hand crews and other fire resources have been ordered from a variety of agencies, according to Roderick.


A 10 acre fire has broken out in Jefferson County just near the Butte-Silver Bow County border.

Air retardant helicopters and additional hand crews are on the scene, according to Leona Roderick, public information officer for the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest Service. Other fire resources have been ordered from a variety of agencies.

The fire is located 19 miles off Highway 2. The cause of the fire is unknown.
