Now is the time to make sure that your water keeps flowing with the cold weather on our heels.
There are several things you can do to make sure your pipes do not freeze during this cold snap. The most common location for your pipes to freeze is right around your water meter.
Make sure that area is free and clear and if the location is not too cold, it might help prevent icing up of your water line.
But if it happens one thing you might try according to Water and Sewer Operations' John Alston, is "If you do freeze, the best thing you can do is use what the water crews use, and that is a hair dryer. Just a normal hair dryer and very patiently work to thaw out your line, nine times out of 10 you can do it yourself."
Alston says depending on how frozen your pipes are it could take upwards of an hour with the hairdryer to get the water flowing again.
If your pipes do freeze and you are in need of assistance, you can call Bozeman Police at 582-2000 as the other option for immediate assistance and you can call your favorite plumber.
