In passed years when Wayne Tinkle has needed a little depth on his bench, he's been known to do a little recruiting in the football team's locker room.
It was just two years ago that Tinkle brought on Griz tight end Dan Beaudin for some extra help in the post when some of his big guys went down with injuries.
This year it's quarterback Justin Roper making the crossover from football to hoops. After talking with Tinkle over the past couple months, Roper joined the team on Monday of this week and has been practicing with the Griz ever since.
Wayne Tinkle, "It's so late in the season it's very clear that he's going to be a practice player for us, help our guys get better, help some guys get rest down the stretch here and the team's really embraced him. He's a great kid with a great attitude, we let him know that those are the expectations and that's it and I thin he's going to be on board."
Tinkle says Roper likely won't see much playing time unless injuries dictate otherwise.
Montana is back at home for league games this week against Eastern on Friday and Portland State on Saturday.
