A road closure remains in effect in Yellowstone's Lamar Valley between Tower Junction and the park's northeast entrance due to a high-water road washout.

Runoff from the river and creek chewed through the right lane of traffic on Friday due to the high amount of snowmelt in the area.

Since the water showed no sign of stopping and was beginning to eat away at the left lane, Park officials shut down the road until they could stabilize the washout.

Park Spokesman Al Nash says while they've made good progress on repairs of the washed out section of road near Soda Butte, they are not yet in a position to re-open the road to travel.

Also, The Lewis Lake Campground has not yet been opened due to high water and snow.
