BUTTE - Butte now has an open container ordinance. The Butte Council of Commissioners, on a 7 to 5 votes, approved an open container law Wednesday evening.
Commissioners in favor of the ban said Wednesday that it would prevent disorderly conduct during the early morning hours and make Butte more attractive to business.
Commissioners against the ban said police manpower is the issue and that laws are already on the books, need to be enforced.
The ordinance bans people from having an open container of alcohol on the streets of Butte between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.
