MISSOULA- Authorities have released the name of the man who investigators believe committed suicide by walking into a semi truck on the University of Montana campus.
Missoula County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Jason Johnson has identified the man as William Michael Peoples, 60, adding that, "from a coroner's office perspective, this incident appears to have been a suicide."
Johnson also stated that a family member contacted by the Sheriff's office said that Peoples had "done this before."
Peoples was caught under the rear wheels and dragged several feet before the truck came to a stop in the incident that happened around noon on Friday. Peoples died from blunt force trauma to his body, Johnson said.
Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Novak told us Friday that appeared the man threw himself under the wheels intentionally to kill himself.
The truck had been making deliveries on the east side of campus, behind the University Center, when the incident occurred.
