More testimony in Jason Washington's federal drug trial

MISSOULA - During the second day of testimony in the Jason Washington trial, jurors heard wiretap recordings, including one where Washington is apparently bringing marijuana to a friend and former Griz football player, Houston Roots.

Based on text messages and the phone call recordings, Washington brought small amounts of marijuana to Roots on several occasions.

A Drug Enforcement Administration Agent testified Washington also arranged deals to buy marijuana from several medical marijuana providers, including a co-defendant in this case, Jesse Shewalter.

Surveillance video from the cameras that were set up by the DEA show Shewalter taking a black duffel bag out of the trunk of his car and carrying it into Washington's "406 Motoring" business.

Washington's attorney argued some of the people his client allegedly made deals with to buy marijuana were never charged federally-or at all. The prosecutors said those people may not have been charged because their level of involvement was not the same as Washington's.

Firearms were also seized during the November 2011 raid of Washington's businesses where investigators took two semi-automatic rifles and they also found a gun in the driver's side door of Washington's car.

Prosecutors charged him with "possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime," but the defense attorney argued there's no evidence that the guns seized were ever used in such crimes.

Washington's trial continues on Wednesday.
