Montana daycare responds to second sex assault report

MISSOULA - Missoula police are investigating a second alleged sexual assault at Busy Hands Fun Center drop-in daycare.

This incident reportedly involves a 5-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy. Police said the girl's parents made the report last Friday night, saying the boy inappropriately touched the girl a month ago.

The news comes after last week's report that a 10-year-old boy allegedly touched a 5-year-old boy inappropriately at the same daycare.

Busy Hands installed video cameras over the weekend and the owners say safety remains a top priority. They plan to meet with Child Protective Services this week to find better ways to communicate with kids and parents.

Busy Hands' co-owner, Dawn, says the police report was the first she heard of it. She wishes the parents had told the daycare about it themselves, when they first learned of it.

"The parent needs to tell us as soon as they find out. They can't wait a month, because it's hard to know exactly what happened, who it happened with," said Dawn, who asked to only be identified by her first name. "'Cause we see so many kids with so many backgrounds that it's hard to know what they've dealt with, what they've been taught."

Because it was not reported right away, Dawn said she doesn't know who the 5-year-old is who allegedly touched the girl.

But the 10-year-old accused of last week's incident is not allowed at Busy Hands until he gets cleared by a counselor and a doctor.

Police say they're investigating the two incidents, not the daycare.
