Men in custody after Blackfeet Reservation shooting

BROWNING - Two Browning men are in custody in connection with a shooting Monday evening on the Blackfeet Reservation.

The person that was shot, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly in stable condition when he was airlifted to a hospital in Kalispell.

Jason Mattson and Jerry Mattson were arrested, and both face charges of assault and negligent endangerment, according to Blackfeet Tribal Police.

Joshua Bird, the acting chief of police, tells us the shooting happened outdoors in a rural area Monday night around 6 p.m. on U.S. Highway 2 and BIA Route 1. Bird says the man was shot under the neck, below his chest plate.

Bird tells us the investigation is underway, and that the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the relationship between the men has not yet been determined.
