The Better Business Bureau along with several other national organizations has teamed up to remind everyone about the importance of protecting yourself and your business during the 12th annual National Consumer Protection Week.

Coleen Smith from the Montana Outreach of the Better Business Bureau says the importance of dedicating a week to consumer protection is "to make people aware that they need to take precautions to keep themselves safe and also to businesses to help keep their customers, especially their data and stuff safe, which is kind of one of the themes this year."

Find out exactly how to protect yourself by attending a listening session tonight at the Bozeman Public Library. Attorney General Steve Bullock will be on hand, helping inform consumers about services that are available to teach them how to keep personal information safe. Bullock will be at the library from 6 to 8 p.m.

If you live west of the Continental Divide, there will be a consumer protection panel Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the War Bonnet Hotel in Butte. The Small Business Administration, Better Business Bureau and the Computer Institute of the Rockies will all be on hand talking about protecting your business and identity. Register for the event by calling the chamber at 723-3177.
