Lost snowshoer found near Moonlight Basin

GALLATIN COUNTY - A lost snowshoer was found near Moonlight Basin on Thursday.

At around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the Gallatin County Dispatch Center received a 911 cell phone call from the lost snowshoer in the upper Jack Creek drainage near the Moonlight Basin Resort. A Sheriff's Deputy Coordinator and the Search and Rescue personnel from Big Sky responded to find her, according to a release from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office.

Rescuers from Moonlight Basin Ski Patrol joined the search and quickly found the snowshoer and transported her to safety. She was able to be located after giving a description of the area and with the help of a GPS location from her cell phone.

The lost snowshoer helped facilitate her quick and successful rescue, according the release. The snowshoer called for help, stayed in one place and kept in cell phone communication, which made it easier for her to be found.
