It's an exciting time for students at Chief Joseph Middle School as they get ready to present their science projects at the Regional Science Fair in Butte Thursday.

Sixty middle schooler students will present the projects they have been working on for the past several months. Several students had mentors, ranging from professors, graduate students, Museum of the Rockies paleontologists and others, helping them learn more through their experiments.

Though it has been a lot of work, the students say it has been well worth the effort as they get ready to head to Butte.

"It was kind of hard to understand this in the beginning, but not it's really beneficial," said Karissa Tu from Chief Joseph Middle School.

"I'm hoping that I'm going to learn a lot of new and interesting facts," sixth grader Chase Jordan said.

"There's a lot of smart kids there and a lot of good projects, and hopefully your hard work will pay off," Taylor Degenhart of Chief Joseph Middle School said.

"It was definitely worth it. I put about three to four months into it, I had a great time with it," seventh grader Matthew Stewart said.

"It was definitely kind of fun, and it was very interesting, like I said, seeing what's all around us on stuff you wouldn't really expect," seventh grader Logan Oelkers said.

After the competition in Butte, the students will go on to Missoula, home of the State Science Fair on March 22 and 23.
