A Kalispell couple spent Saturday night huddled closely together hoping to be found after losing their way in the back country of Glacier National Park.
The two were cross-country skiing in the North Fork area of the park when they lost their way. Glacier National Park officials say the 46-year-old husband and his 39-year-old wife sent a 911 message just after 8 p.m when they realized they needed help.
They sent the message using a spot messenger device and park rangers say the message indicated the couple was one mile north of the Akokala Creek Trail, which is in a very remote area of the park.
Due to bad weather, poor visibility and overall unsafe conditions, ground and aerial pursuits were postponed for the night.
Kalispell Regional Medical Center's ALERT air ambulance scoured the area Sunday and saw the couple's tracks in the snow. The two were lifted to safety and it appears they were not seriously injured and the couple drove themselves home on Sunday afternoon.
