BELGRADE - Funeral and memorial services are planned this week for a Belgrade school principal who died suddenly over the weekend.
Craig Cummings, 53, was the principal of Heck/Quaw elementary.
Belgrade superintendent Candy Lubansky sent out a letter to family and friends of the Heck/Quaw Elementary School stating that Cummings passed away Saturday, August 13 at 9:00 P.M.
Lubansky said he had been in a coma since Monday, August 8, when he suffered a heart-related event. According to the superintendent, Cummings was surrounded by his wife, three children and extended family when he died.
A funeral for Cummings will be held Thursday, August 18 at 11:00 A.M. in Belt, MT at the Belt High School gymnasium.
The Belgrade school district plans to hold a tribute to Cummings on Friday, August 19 at 4 P.M. in the Belgrade High School auditorium. Friends and family will be able to gather afterwards at Quaw School.
More details will be posted on the Belgrade school district's website.
Labansky said elementary counselors will hold a session for parents only on how to talk with children about grief and loss on Friday, August 19 from 10:00 to 10:30 A.M. in the Quaw music room.
"Mr. Cummings passing leaves a huge hole in our school district's heart and is a tremendous loss of professional talent and expertise," said Lubansky. "We shall miss him deeply and will continue to honor the many contributions he made for children here at Belgrade School District."
David Smith will act as the interim principal at Heck/Quaw elementary. School is slated to start August 24.
