Former Billings teacher pleads guilty to raping student

BILLINGS - Stacey Rambold, a former Billings Senior High School teacher accused of raping a student in 2007, has pleaded guilty.

According to Yellowstone County Deputy County Attorney Ingrid Rosenquist, Rambold, 53, pleaded guilty on Monday to a single count of sexual intercourse without consent in Yellowstone County District Court.

Under a plea agreement, the state is recommending that Rambold serves 20 years in the Montana State Prison with 10 years suspended.

Rambold will be sentenced at a later date.

In 2007, the former high school teacher had sexual relations with a 14-year-old female student.

One year later, he resigned from his teaching position and was charged with three felonies. Two of those charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement.

While the case was pending, the victim took her own life.

Last fall, School District Two reached a $92,000 wrongful death settlement with the girl's family.
