While an evacuation plan has been developed for the Steel Creek Subdivision, there are no current evacuations or evacuation orders in place for any area near the Stewart Fire, located about eight miles southeast of Wisdom on the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, according to a news release from the Forest Service.

Structural protection work has been completed for cabins and mine sites in the area. So far, the cost to date for the fire is $600,000.

"A ten-person fire use module is now assigned to the fire to monitor fire behavior and fuel conditions at specific points along the northeast portion of the fire, as well as collect data on established plots to measure the fire effects on the fuels. They will be camped near the fire and supported from the base camp at Wisdom," the release states.

There are 105 people assigned to the fire with two crews, two helicopters and one water tender.

"Safety of our firefighters and the public on this incident will not be compromised. Private in-holdings within the National Forest and forest infrastructure protection will be included in the planned actions. Homeowners need to be thinking of protective actions and mitigation measures they can take for fire protection considerations," the release states.
