A strong and dry cold front will drop out of Canada and push through Montana Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Ahead of the front temperatures will rise into the 80's and 90's Thursday with the hottest temperatures east of the divide. As the front approaches winds will increase beginning Thursday afternoon for western Montana and east of the divide Thursday night and Friday along with very low humidity values will increase the fire danger substantially.
There is a Fire Weather Watch for most of central and SW Montana Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. This watch will most likely be upgraded to a red flag warning tomorrow.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for the Deer Lodge-Beaverhead national forests from noon Thursday through 10pm.
West winds 15-25 gusting at times to 35 mph and humidity values 10%-20% will greatly increase fire danger.
I'll have a complete short term forecast covering this event tonight at 5:30pm and a fresh look at 10pm.
