When is the coldest time of the year for SW Montana? Climatology shows that the coldest average lows happen during December and a few occur in January. Here is the break down.

Bozeman Gallatin Field: coldest average low is 9 degrees between December 11th to January 4th. All time record low is -46 12/24/83

Bozeman MSU: coldest average low is 12 degrees December 13th to December 30th. All time record low is -43 2/8/1936.

Dillon airport: coldest average low is 10 degrees, December 17th to the 19th. All time record low is -37 12/24/1983.

Ennis: coldest average low is 12 degrees December 13th to the 30th. All time record low is -43 2/17/1936.

Townsend: coldest average low is 11 degrees December 17th to 29th. All time record low is -39 1/27/1957.

Butte: coldest average low is 4 degrees December 18th and 19th. All time record low is -52 degrees on 12/23/1983.

Anaconda: coldest average low is 11 degrees December 11th to the 25th. All time record low is -38 12/24/83.

Wisdom: coldest average low is 0 degrees December 13th-24th and again February 4th to the 13th. All time record low is -55 12/23/1983.
