The term "roll your own" used to mean cowboys sitting on a corral rolling their own cigarettes.
Today that term has a whole new meaning in the West, thanks to restaurants like Bozeman's Seven Sushi.
Instead of tobacco, we're talking these says about raw fish. The Kagy eatery hosted a sushi rolling class this afternoon. It was a charity benefit for a trio of non-profits, Haven, Eagle Mount and the Cancer Support Community.
More than a dozen participants were guided through the process by Chef Tony Duren with help with several assistants.
Thanks to his patient instruction, along with some hearty servings of warm sake, the aspiring cooks sliced and diced their way to a new skill, while benefiting some great causes.
"You get to see people learn a new skill set and then having Seven Sushi a community partner as well, it's very fulfilling seeing, making a difference while having some fun and doing it all together. It's actually very important to us," Nick Chlebeck of Seven Sushi said.
Seven Sushi will be hosting more benefits next month on Feb. 6 and 13.
