A 9-year-old boy was approached by a suspicious man in a vehicle yesterday afternoon.
Police say the boy was riding his bicycle at approximately 4:15 p.m. when a man in a white sedan reportedly stopped his vehicle and said: "Hey kid...come here. Do you want to go with me?"
The incident took place at the intersection of S. Willson and W. College St.
The boy left the area immediately and went directly to a place of safety and reported the incident to a trusted adult.
The Bozeman Police Department and our School Resource Officers are working together with the Bozeman School District in investigating this incident thoroughly.
Officials say yesterday's incident is a reminder for the public and community members to take the opportunity to discuss this incident with your children and develop preventative measures as parents to make children and the community aware of potential dangers and the appropriate actions.
Law enforcement want to emphasize that the actions taken by the young man are exactly what he should have done. He recognized the possible danger of the encounter and immediately went to a safe place to report the incident.
Police say the vehicle involved was an older model, white sedan with the male described as being a white male, 40-50 years old, with short dark hair. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, comments or questions, call the Bozeman Police Department at 582-2000.
