Bobcat track athletes earn first place finish at season opener

BOZEMAN - It's the first track meet of the season and Montana State certainly started off on the right foot. Worthington Arena was the site of the MSU Combined Events Invitational both Monday and Tuesday. Monday featured the women's pentathlon and Bobcat Carley McCutchen who came within three points of her lifetime best. The Washington native edged Montana's Shaylee Dezellem by 98 points to secure the victory. McCutchen won the high jump outright and also posted a new personal record in the 55 meter hurdles (8.32 seconds).

On the men's side, there was a highly anticipated matchup between MSU's Jeff Mohl and Montana's Austin Emry. Mohl, the 2012 Big Sky outdoor decathlon champion trailed Emry after the first day by only 18 points. But the second day is where Mohl passed Emry to secure the win with 5,590 points, a new personal record as well as a new meet record.

The Bobcats will compete in full force on Friday, Jan. 18, at the MSU Dual Meet Invitational. Montana and Idaho State will also be in attendance. The field events are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
