Heck Quaw Elementary played host to several USDA regional officials, helping spread the word about National School Breakfast Week.

Dozens of parents and students were in the cafeteria of Belgrade's Heck Quaw Elementary Tuesday morning not only to recognize National School Breakfast Week, but also to receive a statewide award for the school's healthy school breakfast program.

Though the school was awarded the honor in January, it was presented with the award Tuesday.

The USDA selected Heck Quaw School to be the host this year because of all the accomplishments it has made.

Principal Craig Cummings couldn't be prouder.

"It's the hard work of the staff, it's the hard work of the teachers, it's just a reflection back of all the work and all the efforts and the team atmosphere that we have at our school as we progress along," Cummings said.

"It compliments everything that we are working for with the USDA, and that's why we came out to Montana to recognize this school," USDA Regional Director Darlene Sanchez said.

Heck Quaw head cook Kathy Biehl offered some advice for making a healthy meal.

"They need to start out with a good meal to see what it looks like, the fresh fruits and vegetables and the protein and the good cereals, I think that's important," Biehl said.

Heck Quaw Elementary was selected for the honor to host the USDA regional officials out of the 10 states that the regional office serves.
