Bareback bronc rider injured at state finals in Bozeman, plans to keep competing

BOZEMAN - A high school freshman is planning to get back on his horse after a riding accident that knocked him unconscious at the Montana High School Rodeo State Finals this morning.

The first rider of the day, Koltin Kimmel, a freshman at Colstrip High School, was competing in the bareback bronc riding competition when he got caught between his bronc and the pick-up rider.

Kimmel was knocked unconscious for about 10 minutes. He was carried to an ambulance, but by the time he got there, he had recovered enough to not go to the hospital.

Despite being very sore with some deep muscle strains, Kimmel plans to ride both bulls and bareback broncs on Saturday.

The Montana High School Rodeo State Finals are being held at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.
